The ND series sits between them, isolating the starter battery and converting raw alternator output into a correct 3-stage charge for AGM, Gel, flooded or lithium service banks.
No separate relay needed — the ND charges the service bank only when the engine runs, protecting the starter battery from discharge.

A relay dumps raw alternator voltage into the service battery — undercharged banks, boiled AGMs and alternator overload. The ND converter regulates input and output current and applies the correct 3-stage profile, which is why lithium banks require a DC-DC charger.
A 20A unit suits weekend campers with a single 100Ah battery; 40A fits family RVs and frequent travelers; 60A is for large banks or fast turnaround between trips. Rule of thumb: 0.2–0.3C of your lithium bank capacity.
